OZONE THERAPY BENEFITS
Conditions that improve with Ozone TherapyPotential Benefits of Ozone Therapy?
If we focus on scientific materials and techniques that have shown to be promising.
There is much medical research published demonstrating ozone’s safety and good effects when used carefully.
To summarise, when given to the body, ozone has the following beneficial effects:
• Anti-Ageing effect
• Increases Oxygenation of your Cells
• Boosts your Immune System, releases cytokines, stem cells,
activation of white blood cells
• Increases Energy and ATP Production in your Cells
• Increases the Activity of the Antioxidant Enzyme System
• Anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal effects
• Stimulates and accelerates the healing process, especially for chronic conditions
Potential Health Benefits
In 1929, a book entitled Ozone and its therapeutic actions was published, detailing more than 100 diseases that could be treated by O3 therapy ( Juchniewicz and Lubkowska, 2020 ), and our knowledge of its uses in healthcare has been gradually increasing ever since.
Diseases or conditions that may benefit from treatment with ozone are infected wounds, circulatory disorders, geriatric conditions, macular degeneration, viral diseases, rheumatism/arthritis, cancer, severe acute respiratory syndrome and AIDS (Elvis and Ekta, 2011).
Medical use of ozone initially started with the treatment of wounds and infections, and it has been shown to be effective in treating bacterial infections of the skin ( Juchniewicz and Lubkowska, 2020 ). However, in vitro, animal and clinical trials have shown various other benefits and potential benefits. The O3 compound has haemodynamic and anti-inflammatory properties and has the ability to decrease cholesterol, improve glycaemic index and stimulate antioxidant defence ( Juchniewicz and Lubkowska, 2020 ). It has also been proposed to result in benefits related to both health and quality of life for people with hypoxic syndromes, diabetes mellitus and peripheral arterial disease, particularly older people and those who are not eligible for standard revascularisation ( Juchniewicz and Lubkowska, 2020 ).
Health Conditions That Improve with Ozone Therapy
Ozone works in conjunction with your body’s ability to renew and regenerate itself. The treatment emphasizes the notion that sickness results when the body is unable to perform its natural response of self-healing. The reactive properties of ozone stimulate the body to work to remove these barriers so it can restore itself.
Ozone can be prepared so that it is applied to the skin, created as part of ozonated water, or blown as a gas into the body.
For the treatment of a specific body part, ozone therapy can include an ozone sauna, in which the damaged body part is bagged and exposed to the gas. Ozone can also be injected directly into the body.
Find out more about the effects Ozone therapy may have on these 10 conditions:
Chronic hepatitis
A review of research related to ozone therapy and hepatitis C (HCV) indicatesthat this procedure significantly improves the clinical symptoms associated with chronic HCV among patients who undergo ozone therapy when compared to patients who do not receive it. When ozone therapy was administered with traditional interferon therapy for HCV, some patients had fewer interferon side effects and better results than those who had either therapy alone.
Infections
The therapy with ozone usage may inhibit the growth and development of bacteria, thereby potentially stopping the spread of infection. Medical O3 has also been shown to inactivate viruses, fungi, yeast, and protozoa.
Respiratory disorders
Your lungs supply oxygen to your blood. Since ozone therapy loads the blood with
oxygen, the treatment may minimise the stress on the lungs that results from respiratory disorders.
Macular Degeneration
Dry age-related macular degeneration ranks among the most common causes of vision loss among the elderly in developed countries. According to research, ozone therapy reduces photoreceptor death and improves visual acuity significantly when patients begin treatment as soon as possible.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that can cause pain and inflammation and lead to disability. Ozone therapy may reduce pain and inflammation as well as strengthen the immune system. The effect may activate the antioxidant defence system and improve circulation and oxygen delivery.
Wound Repair
In the treatment of nonhealing wounds, the disinfectant properties of ozone therapy may help speed healing and reduce pain. When compared to standard dressing and other treatments, research indicated that this type of therapy provided results faster than standard dressing and other treatments.
Dental Therapy
Research indicates that ozone therapy may reduce treatment time to varying degrees in dental therapy. It may be beneficial in eradicating bacteria. When used in dental applications, ozone therapy is painless and may increase your tolerability with minimal adverse effects.
Adjunct Cancer Therapy
Because the treatment saturates the blood with oxygen, this type of therapy with ozone usage can assist cancer patients. While human cells require oxygen, cancer cells can’t live in high oxygen concentrations. Ozone therapy may create an environment that limits cancer cell growth and survival.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The injection of ozone therapy combined with wrist splinting may improve the signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome in mild to moderate cases. Researchers discovered that combining ozone therapy with wrist splinting had much better benefits than splinting alone.
Skin Conditions
Ozone therapy administered as local injections may contribute to the management and prevention of acne and rosacea. The treatment may also be used to treat infectious skin diseases, psoriasis, and skin-related allergic diseases.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ozone Therapy safe?
Ozone clincs, prioritise your safety. Ozone treatment is generally a very safe therapy in the hands of an experienced and certified clinician. There are very few contraindications. Clinics will carefully evaluate each person’s suitability prior to the session and tailor the session based on individual feedback and sensitivities. They will monitor and adjust the session to make it a pleasant and relaxing experience.
Are there any side effects?
Ozone treatment’s side effects are very rare. Some clients may experience flu-like symptoms and discolouration urine (Herxheimer reaction) which usually resolves shortly after the Ozone treatment. The symptoms can be relieved by drinking water or fluids containing electrolytes or having a light meal after the session. Because clinics prioritise safety, any potential side effects are mitigated.
Are there any contraindications to Ozone Therapy?
While Ozone treatment offers numerous benefits, it’s not suitable for clients who are pregnant, individuals under 18, and those with hyperthyroidism. A clinician will assess your suitability for Ozone treatment and recommend other therapies if you are not an ideal candidate for Ozone treatment.
How long does Ozone Therapy take?
Our Ozone treatment usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes per session depending on the number of passes. Subject to each client’s needs and to achieve therapeutic effects, clinics would offer various treatments including major autohemotherapy commonly refrerred to as 5 and 10 passes.
What do 5 passes and 10 Passes mean?
The number of passes tells you how many times the blood is passing the Ozone machine and being infused with Ozone before returning to your body in each session. For example: 5 Passes means 150ml of your blood is infused with Ozone 5 times within a single session. If this is your first-time doing Ozone treatment, we would generally start you off with 5 Passes to manage the Herxheimer reaction.
According to Frank Shallenberger, M.D., Ozone treatment can have the following benefits:
• Ozone stimulates the immune system and its cells to fight infection
• Ozone is an anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal therapy
• Ozone increases the delivery of oxygen from the blood to the cells
• Ozone may inhibit tumour growth
• Ozone may oxidise and degrade petrochemicals
• Ozone may increase red blood cell flexibility and oxygen delivery
• Ozone may support the body to fight infections and cancers
• They increase the efficiency of the antioxidant enzyme system, which means better toxin elimination from the body
• Ozone may increase metabolism and therefore increase energy generation
